In the wake of a recent storm that struck on Christmas evening, these resilient communities are grappling with the aftermath, standing strong but in need of our collective support.
The Aftermath: A Community in Need
The festive cheer was replaced by an unexpected storm that left the northern Gold Coast in disarray. Residents still lack power and essential telecommunications nearly three days after the storm. The enormity of the recovery effort ahead is daunting, and our fellow community members face it with courage and determination.
The Urgent Call for Assistance
Northern Gold Coast communities are seeking assistance, particularly in Helensvale our neighbouring suburb. With emergency services and volunteer crews stretched thin, they face an uphill battle in clearing debris, assessing damages, and rebuilding what was lost. The storm's intensity has been likened to a tornado, leaving buildings damaged, trees uprooted, and an entire community shaken.
A Tragic Toll: Losses and Injuries
Amid this chaos, we mourn the loss of a 59-year-old Helensvale woman, a tragic reminder of the storm's devastating impact. Dozens more have been injured, underscoring the urgency of the situation and the need for immediate relief efforts.
